Yes! 2x6 zellige subway tiles are commonly used in pools, shower walls, fountains, spas, and bathrooms. Ensure that the surface of each area is stable and waterproof prior to starting the installation. Use adhesive cement and grout appropriate for use in wet areas.

While 2x6 zellige subway tile is suitable for wet locations, it shouldn’t be installed in exterior locations where it will be exposed to frost or freezing temperatures. Zellige tile also shouldn’t be installed where it can experience very heavy loads, such as driveways or garage floors.

Our craftsmen start with raw clay, which they soak in water and hand filter for impurities. At this point, the clay becomes a soft, malleable substance that can be placed into various molds. These pieces are then placed side by side and left to dry in the bright Moroccan sun.

The 2x6 zellige subway tiles are then flattened and shaped by hand and left to dry further. Each piece of zellige is hand-dipped in glaze and then methodically placed in an earthen kiln. Heat is distributed unevenly throughout the kiln which gives zellige its incredible variation.

The highly individualized, handmade process of making our 2x6 zellige subway tile means no two tiles are exactly the same. There are subtle variations in both color tone and pattern detail that instill more character into our 2x6 zellige subway tiles than other mass-produced, highly uniform tiles. Our 2x6 zellige subway tiles are perfect for environments that highlight craftsmanship and authenticity. Traditional 2x6 zellige subway tile will have approximately 15-20% of these perfect imperfections. If a more uniform look is desired, we suggest increasing the order size by 20% to reduce the amount of variation during installation.

2x6 zellige subway tiles are glazed and therefore do not require sealing, as they are protected from water and staining. Mix the tones and shades from different cartons to achieve harmony within the color hues and surface variations. For surfaces in direct contact with water - bathroom showers, pools, fountains, etc. please ensure the base surface is waterproofed before installing zellige tiles.
